In the entire locomotive Pantograph is the most costly item. Pantograph is the part of locomotive which supplies electricity from the upper electric wire on the track. As you all are aware that any electric locomotive has 2 pantographs. One is front and the other is rear.
But you have always seen that whenever a locomotive runs it uses a rear pantograph (Opposite direction of train movement) to get electricity. This is not that train can't be run from with front pantograph in the same direction. This gets used to the safety concern,
In case of any damage to the rare pantograph while running the train. The train can be operated with a front Pantograph in that critical situation without making any impact on continuing the journey. If the pilot is using the front pantograph and it gets damaged (Broken) while the journey it can damage the rare pantograph also. In that case, it will stop the train journey totally.

पूरे लोकोमोटिव में पेंटोग्राफ सबसे महंगा आइटम है। पैंटोग्राफ लोकोमोटिव का वह हिस्सा है जो ट्रैक पर ऊपरी बिजली के तार से बिजली की आपूर्ति करता है। जैसा कि आप सभी जानते हैं कि किसी भी इलेक्ट्रिक लोकोमोटिव में 2 पेंटोग्राफ होते हैं। एक सामने है और दूसरा पीछे है।
लेकिन आपने हमेशा देखा होगा कि जब भी कोई लोकोमोटिव चलाता है तो वह बिजली प्राप्त करने के लिए एक रियर पेंटोग्राफ (ट्रेन की गति के विपरीत दिशा) का उपयोग करता है। ऐसा नहीं है कि ट्रेन को उसी दिशा के फ्रंट पेंटोग्राफ से नहीं चलाया जा सकता है। इसे सुरक्षा की दृष्टि को ध्यान रखते हुए इस्तेमाल किया जाता है|
ट्रेन चलाने के दौरान पेंटोग्राफ को किसी भी नुकसान के मामले में ट्रेन को यात्रा को जारी रखने पर कोई प्रभाव डाले बिना उस गंभीर स्थिति में फ्रंट पेंटोग्राफ के साथ संचालित किया जा सकता है। यदि पायलट फ्रंट पैंटोग्राफ का उपयोग कर रहा है और यह क्षतिग्रस्त (टूटा हुआ) हो जाता है, तो यह दुर्लभ पेंटोग्राफ को भी नुकसान पहुंचा सकता है। उस स्थिति में ट्रेन यात्रा को पूरी तरह से रोक देना होगा।
